The Deputy Chief of mission, Mr. Myochin Mitsuru of the Embassy of Japan in the Hague paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister Plenipotentiary, Mr. René Violenus on Monday September 13th, 2021. Mr. Mitsura shared Japan’s interest to expand relations with Sint Maarten after Covid-19 and was particularly interested in Sint Maarten’s tourism sector. Minister Violenus expressed Sint Maarten’s interest in knowledge sharing and cooperation in the area of disaster risk management, given Japan’s vast experience in this sector. Moreover, Minister Violenus made use of the opportunity to highlight Sint Maarten’s prominent position as a hub in the Northeastern Caribbean and hoped to discuss possible trade related opportunities with Japan in the near future.
